Nice review for Leslie Carmichael's Lyranel's Song in Calgary Herald

Leslie Carmichael's YA fantasy Lyranel's Song (Blooming Tree Press) received a nice review in the Sunday, March 18, Calgary Herald. Kate Larking wrote:

Calgary writer Carmichael makes clubfooted Lyranel the epitome of strength and determination, with no residual inklings of self-pity or helplessness over her disability. Lyranel's world is refreshingly gender-egalitarian and Lyranel's diverse friendships--ladies, bandits, singers, cooks, knights--provide a multifaceted view of life. Lyranel's Song is intended for a tween or early teen audience, but, nevertheless, this heart-warming story can be enjoyed by all.

Joe Mahoney SF comedy series picked up for 10 episodes on CBC Radio One

The science-fiction comedy series Canadia that Joe Mahoney developed with Matt Watts has been picked up for 10 episodes on CBC Radio One. It will begin airing mid-March. The series will star and be written by Matt Watts (of Steve the First and Steve the Second), and produced by Greg DeClute. Joe will be story editor and series advisor.

Joe also reports he has been reassigned from the CBC Radio Drama department to the new (as yet unnamed) arts show with Jian Ghomeshi, which will air weekday afternoons starting in mid-April. Says Joe, "It's my intention to feature as much SF on the show as our audience will let me get away with, and then some."

UPDATE: The show will actually begin airing in April, not March--April 20, to be exact--and will air regularly Fridays at 11:30 a.m., following Afghanada.
