Claude Lalumière sells to Distant Horizons anthology

Claude Lalumière's story "Sexes in the City" will appear in the queer SF anthology Distant Horizons, edited by Greg Herren, due out from the US-based Haworth Press in 2007.

Jean-Louis Trudel story in Greek newspaper supplement

Jean-Louis Trudel's story "Les jardiniers du monde" was reprinted in Ennea 312, the July 12 issue of the weekly supplement to the Greek newspaper Eleftherotypia. The original version of this story was published in an Acadian magazine in 1997. It has since been republished in Solaris (2000), in the French anthology Utopiae 2002 (2002), and in Jean-Louis's Canadian collection Jonctions impossibles (2003).

Ursula Pflug story wins first prize in Dark Tales flash fiction competition

Ursula Pflug's story "A Shower of Fireflies" won first prize in Dark Tales's now-defunct monthly flash subsidiary. A new story, "Fires," has been sold to a ghost anthology from Toronto's Tightrope Press, edited by Myna Wallin and Halli Villegas. It will be launching at The Boat in Kensington Market in October. Another new story, "Isolde, Shea, and the Donkey Brea" has been sold to Strange Horizons.

Ursula also notes that many of her Peterborough Examiner reviews have been reprinted in the New York Review of Science Fiction. The most recent of these are her reviews of a
A Girl Like Sugar by Emily-Pohl-Weary (July) and A Game Of Perfection by Elisabeth Vonarburg (May).

Simon Rose launching The Emerald Curse in Calgary August 26 and 27

Simon Rose will be at Chapters in Calgary's Chinook Centre this weekend to launch The Emerald Curse, his fourth novel for young readers. He'll be there on Saturday, August 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, August 27, from noon to 4 p.m. Simon notes, "I have 20 more book signings at Chapters and Coles in Calgary between now and Christmas and these will be advertised each week in the Around Town section of the Calgary Herald."

Claude Lalumière's story "Lost Girls" has been bought for the fourth issue of Paul Jessup's new bi-annual fantasy magazine GrendelSong, due to be published in March, 2008.

Holly Phillips up for two World Fantasy Awards

Holly Phillips's collection In the Palace of Repose (Prime Books) has made the final ballot for the World Fantasy Awards in the category of best single-author collection category, and her story "The Other Grace" (from the collection) is a finalist in the short story category.

Other nominees in the best collection category are Joe Hill, 20th Century Ghosts (PS Publishing), Caitlín R. Kiernan, To Charles Fort, With Love (Subterranean Press), Kelly Link, Magic for Beginners (Small Beer Press), and Bruce Holland Rogers, The Keyhole Opera (Wheatland Press).

The other nominees in the short story category are Peter S. Beagle, "Two Hearts" (Fantasy & Science Fiction, Oct/Nov 2005), Joe Hill, "Best New Horror" (Postscripts 3, Spring 2005), Caitlín R. Kiernan, "La Peau Verte" (To Charles Fort, With Love, Subterranean Press), and George Saunders, "CommComm" (The New Yorker, 08/01, 2005).

The awards will be presented at the 2006 World Fantasy Convention, which runs November 2 to 5 in Austin, TX.

This year's judges are Steve Lockley, Barbara Roden, Victoria Strauss, Jeff VanderMeer, and Andrew Wheeler.

Steven Mills's novella "Blue Glass Pebbles" can be seen in Interzone 205 (July/August 2006). Best SF calls it the "strongest story in the issue...with strong characterisation, and a no-easy-answers ending."

Thomas C.A. Royle sells two poems

Thomas C.A. Royle recently just sold a poem titled "Canoeing On Io" to The Sword Review. "Canoeing On Io" is slated to appear in the September 2006 issue. Thomas also recently sold a poem to The Fifth Di... titled "Curious Aliens," also slated to appear in September.
